Norwalk Man Takes Cops On Chase, Rams Cruiser, Police Say

An area man who took police on a chase and then rammed a police vehicle is behind bars.

Jahheed John, 22, of Norwalk, was arrested around 10 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28, after Bridgeport Police ran the plates of an Acura TL that was a suspected stolen vehicle, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.

 After running the plates through the database, the car was confirmed to be stolen. Police then attempted to stop the vehicle that was carrying five passengers, Jones said.

The vehicle, driven by John, refused to stop. Police were then lead on a brief pursuit covering four or five streets before John ran the stolen vehicle into the passenger side of the police vehicle on Laurel Street, Jones said.

John then fled the vehicle leaving behind the other passengers. With the support of the State Police K-9 unit, police were able to use the scent of the suspect from the vehicle to find him blocks away a short time later, he said.

All of the passengers were held for a short time and then released.

John was first transport to the hospital for treatment related to the deployment of the airbag in the stolen vehicle he was operating, police said.

The officer involved in the crash was also transported to the hospital for injuries related to the impact of the crash.

John was charged with reckless driving, improper turns, improper turns/stop signaling, larceny 3rd degree, and interfere with officers/resisting. 

He was being held on a $30,000 bond.
